He chastens him whom he loves, and scourges every son whom he receiveth.
He chastens, that we should not be condemned with the world.
He chastens us for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.
Blessed is the man Thou chastenest the blessed man
I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
Will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land.
Will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee.
I have purged thee.
The LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob.
Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee(Israel) no more(with Assyria).
Why sleepest thou, O Lord?
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
LORD, why castest thou off my soul? Why hidest thou thy face from me?
O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee
thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
Why withdrawest thou thy hand,
Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
They perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
the LORD shall stretch out his hand,
he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them:
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days
Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
He hast shewed me great and sore troubles,
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads;
Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
Hast thou then broken down her hedges
I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine(Babylon’s) hand:
God hast cast us off
thou hast not pardoned.(Israel’s rebellion)
And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace.
Thou holdest mine eyes waking:
He shutteth out my prayer.
Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.
But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.
we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
I suffer thy terrors
Thou hast afflicted us,
Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
Thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword,
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
Thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.
He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.
He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
Thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy:
Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours:
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
Shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it. The Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. (God warns people of punishment with prophets)
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle:
I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary,
(I) have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I do [it]: for how should [my name] be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another. For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
I made to cease all sighing of (by sending Persia into Babylon).
And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
